2D is a puzzle platformer game that I developed by myself for a game design class. The core mechanic revolves around shifting between 2 mutually exclusive dimensions. Shifting also maintains momentum, which allows for some complex maneuvering around platforms.
The focus for this game was to explore an interesting core mechanic and designing levels around the mechanic. I tried to keep a smooth difficulty curve throughout the game and to introduce the mechanics while showing the player the potential uses of the mechanic. In addition, I played around with the feel of the platforming to avoid making it too floaty or frustrating. I playtested the game with players of various skill levels in platformers and iterated on the levels and general platforming based on their feedback.
